Discussion Topics:
At the last meeting, we got the ball rolling with some good progress
in determining the direction for the next reunion.
• We are favoring the idea of having the party, weekend
activities, and accommodations in downtown Cleveland (Hyatt Regency/Old
Arcade). There is so much to do in Cleveland that it would be
hard not to have tons of fun! Most of us, including locals, have
never really had the chance to focus on enjoying the downtown
Cleveland scene for entertainment. And, lots of good improvements
have happened there over the past 30 years! We believe if we plan
a fun event, classmates will come to it.
• Planning fun activities for the classmates during
the reunion weekend will be a priority focus. A common suggestion
from the survey was to have more things to do over the weekend,
while spending time together.
• We are leaning towards a casual dinner night, probably
a buffet or heavy appetizers-only style, instead of a typical
sit-down dinner. Our survey indicated alot of preference towards
this style, to increase our mingling time. And, we haven't ruled
out a pig roast yet!
• We are going to pursue gathering information about
having the party at a few other places for comparison and as backup
plans, including the Cuyahoga Falls Sheraton, the GAR Hall in
Peninsula, the Twinsburg Hilton, the Aurora Bertram and Route
8 hotels for accommodations only. The Bertram is still available
for the date of July 24th, 2010.
• Late July is the favored time for the reunion.
• Also, a review of the survey results revealed
some light on some of the issues:
42%
of the 196 classmates contacted, responded (83).
99% indicated they are interested in a 35th year reunion.
75% indicated they are traveling.
40% indicated they want a hotel, regardless of travel.
35% indicated they prefer a hotel at the place of the party.
[The GAR rep called 9/22 and noted that all of July and thru
Aug 8th are not available because of a Lincoln exhibit that
they have at that time. However, June is wide open. Since
she called, she also mentioned that the fee is $450, with a
$200 deposit. Parking is ample across the street. The bathrooms
are small, accommodating 1 person at a time, separate male and
female.]
